JAMES ROSS CAMPBELL
(1873-1951)


James Ross Campbell, of Parkwood, passed away in the Indiana Hospital Wednesday, November 14, at 10:30 pm.  He had been a patient there for one week.  A prominent farm who had lived all his life in the vicinity of Parkwood, the deceased was a son of John Oliver and Nancy Jane Armstrong Campbell, born October 11, 1873 in Armstrong Township, Indiana County, PA.  He was a member of the West Union Presbyterian Church and an elder in his church for many years.  Mr. Campbell was a charter member of Armstrong Grange No 1645 and a school director for some years.  Mr. and Mrs. Campbell celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on December 21, 1950.

In addition to his wife, Pearl Reed Campbell, the deceased is survived by four sons and four daughters:  Paul of
Parkwood, Dean of Indiana, Thomas of Parkwood, and John of West Lebanon:  Mrs. Milton (Hilda) Neal, Homer City, Mrs. George (Nellie) Kaschak,of Parkwood;  Mrs. Arthur (Martha) Tidd; Avonmore, and Mrs. George (Erma) Kibler, Greensburg.  Also by 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three sisters:  Mrs. Ella Warner, Clarksburg, Mrs. Mary Calhoun, Kansas City, MO, and Mrs. Anna Smith, Indiana, PA.  James Ross Campbell is interred in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, Pennsylvnia.



MRS. JANE (CRAIG) CAMPBELL
(1838-1905)

Mrs. Jane Campbell, widow of the late Samuel Campbell, of near Shelocta, died Friday, February 24 (1905) at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Lewis, of South Thirteenth Street, of neuralgia of the heart.

She was in her 66th year and is survived by the following children:  Melvin H., of Allgegheny;  Mrs. M. N. Lewis and Mrs. J. R. Lytle , of Indiana;  Oliver, who lives on the old homestead near Shelocta;  Mrs. Charles F. Smith, of Apollo, and Frank H., and Everett S., who live in the west.  The following brothers and sisters also survive:  John and William Craig and Mrs. Robert Miller, of near Parkwood, and Mrs. S Douthett, of Cushing, NE. 

Funeral services held at the home and the remains were later taken to the United Presbyterian Church near Shelocta where a brief service was held.  Interment in the family plot at the church, of which the deceased was a lifelong
member.



MRS. NANCY (SHARP) CRAIG
(1849-1917)

Mrs. Nancy Sharp Craig, aged 68 years, a well known resident of Armstrong township, died at the home of her son, Frank Craig, on November 30.  She was a daughter of Thomas and Nancy Sharp, and spent practically all her lifetime in the vicinity of Parkwood.  She was a member of the West Union United Presbyterian Church, of West Lebanon.  She leaves two sons, Frank Craig, who resides in the homestead;   Mott and Miss Sarah Craig, of Pitcairn.  Funeral services were held at the Craig home on Monday morning by her pastor, Rev. W. C. Work, and burial was made in the West Union Cemetery.



FRANK CARROLL CRAIG
(1886-1949)

Frank Carroll Craig, of Shelocta, died at his home September 5, after a long illness.  A son of John R. and Nancy Sharp Craig, born January 12, 1886, in Armstrong Township, Indiana County.  Mr. Craig, a farmer, had lived all his life on the farm where he died.  He was a member of the West Union Church.   He was the last member of his immediate family, and is survived by his wife, Bessie Peterman Craig, three sons, John, of Vandergrift, Edward, of Wellsville, NY, and Daniel, at home;  five daughters, Mrs. Florence Campbell, Shelocta; Miss Alice Craig, Detroit, MI; Mrs. Hazel Bash, Indiana;  Mrs. Helen Hileman, of Spring Church, and Miss Dorothy Craig of DuBois;  also eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.   Friends received at Robinsons, Indiana and interment in the West Union Cemetery.


JOHN OTIS CAMPBELL
(1840-1929)

John Otis Campbell, aged over 89 years, who died at his home in Shelocta on Saturday, was one fo the substantial citizens of that section of the county, where he had resided all his life.  The deceased , who was a son of James and Margaret (Craig) Campbell, was born August 3, 1840, in Armstrong Township.  He resided during the greater part of his life near Parkwood, where he was engaged in farming during his active years.  He served as a member of
Company A, 78th Regiment, PA Volunteers, during the Civil War, and was the last surviving veteran of the conflict in Shelocta and Armstrong Township.  He was a lifelong member of the Shelocta United Presbyterian Church and his many fine traits of character won for him the admiration and respect of the community.  The funeral services were conducted in the Curry Run Presbyterian Church, near Shelocta by his pastor, Rev. R. V. E. Wright, and interment followed in the Shelocta UP church cemetery.  He is survived by these children:  J Ross Campbell, Hugh A Campbell, John A Campbell, Mrs. M. L. Warner, Mrs. Mary E. Calhoun and Mrs. Anna B. Smith.


EDWARD MILLER CRAIG
(1878-1931)

Following a lingering illness of several months, the end came peacefully to Edward Miller Craig at his home
near Parkwood on Tuesday, August 18, at 4:00 p.m., aged 54 years, one month and ten days.  The deceased was
a son of the late William Craig, and lived all his life in the community where he died.  He was a charter member of
the Armstrong Grange 1645, and held membership with West Union United Presbyterian Church.  Owing to their being no pastor at West Union, the funeral services were conducted at his late home on Thursday afternoon, August 20 at 2:30 by Rev. M D McClelland, pastor of Curry's Run Presbyterian Church.  Interment followed in Curry's Run
Cemetery.  He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Blanche (Caldwell) Craig, a daughter, Agnes B., and son,
Nelson J Craig, residing at home.  Also two sisters, Miss Luella M. Craig, who resided with the deceased and Mrs. Anna M Dione, of Detroit, Michigan.
       


HUGH FRANK CAMPBELL
(1869-1906)

Frank (H Frank) Campbell, formerly a resident of this county, died at Pasadena, CA, on Monday, of consumption, at the age of 36 years.  He had been in the west for several years, hoping that the climate would benefit his health.  The deceased was a son of the late Samuel Campbell, and was born and raised about two miles south-east of Shelocta.  He visited friends in this county last summer.  He leaves one brother, Melvin, of Allegheny, and three sisters:  Mrs. John Lytle, of Thirteenth Street, this place, Mrs. Mabon N Lewis, formerly of this place, but who with her husband recently moved to the west, and Mrs. Charles Smith, of Apollo. His sister, Mrs. M N Lewis left CA on Tuesday morning with the remains and they are expected here on Saturday at 11:30. Interment will be made in the UP Shelocta graveyard on Saturday afternoon, after services in the church.


               
                             ALEXANDER  SAMUEL CAMPBELL

(1835-1902)             

Mr. Alexander S Campbell, a prominent resident of Armstrong Township, died at his home, on Wednesday evening at 4 o'clock, aged 66 years, 5 months and 12 days.  The deceased was a leading citizen of the neighborhood and served as a member of the school board and held many other offices of trust.  He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Harbison, and the following children:  William, Elizabeth, and Tillie, all residing at home.  He was a
member and ruling elder of the West Union Pres. Church.  The funeral services were held on Saturday, forenoon at his late home.  His pastor, Rev Ralston, officiated, interment following the church cemetery.
     


ELIZABETH HARBISON CAMPBELL
(1856-1907)

Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, widow of the late Alexander S. Campbell, died at her home in Armstrong township on Wednesday morning at 3 o'clock of a complication of diseases, aged 62 years.  The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R A Fouts, of Armstrong township, and Mary, residing at home.  She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. A R Jewell, of Livermore, and a brother, Alexander Harbison, of near West Lebanon.   The funeral services were held on Thursday at her late home by her pastor, Rev. R L Ralston, Interment followed in the cemetery of the West Union UP church of which she was a member.
