Problems In China

China has a small land area and a large population. In comparison with Canada, which has a large land area and a small population, China would obviously have a few problems with fitting everyone in. One main problem is the pollution factor. Fewer people own cars in China than in Canada, but the smaller space and greater population makes the pollution more compact and therefor more noticeable. While pollution itself is a problem, it is not as great as it seems. Pollution can be taken care of with a similar program to AirCare being set up. As well, the limiting to wear cars may travel in the cities would help. Public transportation systems could become more organized, and with that, the entire re-rooting of cities. This is not quite possible, but can be achieved over a period of years.

Pollution is not only a problem caused by cars. It is also caused by factories that have do not filters, and let toxic emissions because the fuel is generally less expensive. Rule and regulations set by the government could easily fix this. Filters on every smoke stack, and a limited out put of emissions year. This would create more manual work, and more jobs. While machines are more efficient they are too costly on the environment to use forever in the future unless we invent a different kind of no-harm energy.

Another problem that is seen in China is the outstanding population. While it isn’t one of the worst problems, it could be eased by having regulations that only allow families to have one or two children per set of parents. This would help the strain on jobs and help the economy.

Child labor, and sweat shops are something I see as a major problem. Yes, the do create jobs, and more often then not the mostly American employer pays them the minimum wage, if not more, for their community, it is still fairly inhumane for their work hours. Many times the children are uneducated, and the health conditions in the labor facilities are not great. An example of this is the glue that Nike used previously on attaching shoe soles to the shoe. It was partly toxic and made the workers that applied it very ill.

There are no real regulations to child labor that are well known. It is argued that the children are helping to support their families that normally would be worse off without the job, but at least the payment should be one American dollar per hour the child works. Some companies are putting education facilities in, but this must become mandatory for all companies that hire from China.

The Chinese government should work with the American government to help solve problems like this by putting in regulations for the companies. Among the regulations should be health care benefits, dental care included, education for those not being educated, larger salaries, the inspection of all the work areas so that they are proven to be safe, as well as the use of materials that are non-toxic and do not cause any harm to the workers.
